EMMA BIGGS
Installation
Discovery tour: WatersideWhen she came to Le Havre, Emma Biggs was inspired by the sensations, colours and shapes encountered along the way, to design three series of benches.
The creation of the benches is supported by an intervention on two external arches of the Saint-François Church, located on the square.
These six benches are made of pre-cast concrete, evoking the very material of the city centre, rebuilt by Auguste Perret after the war. The backs of the benches are covered with mosaics arranged in the style of “structured fragmentation”.
“The fluid shapes of the benches echo those of the arches of the church, and natural shapes created by the sea.
The abstract mosaics on the seats are inspired by two forms of marine life: the back of the benches refers to seaweed, while the front shows patterns found on seashells.
Everyone, children and adults, have experienced this sense of wonder at the beauty offered by the sea." Emma Biggs
