NATURE AS INSPIRATION, LIGHT AS A MEDIUM, SPACE AS CANVAS
Joanie Lemercier has been active in the digital arts community for nearly 15 years. He co-founded the ANTIVJ collective and is recognized for using light with finesse in his creations: light as a medium, space as a canvas, such is his mantra. Working primarily with light projection and computer programming, Joanie Lemercier transforms the appearance of everyday objects and shapes, bending reality to her imagination. Much of Joanie Lemercier's practice is inspired by nature and reflects on the representation of the natural world through mathematics, science and technology. In recent years, Joanie Lemercier has become increasingly concerned about climate change and environmental degradation. His latest video installation, "The Hambach Forest and the Technological Sublime", created at Fundación Telefónica (Madrid) in 2021 on the occasion of the artist's first major solo exhibition, examines the devastating effects of the extraction of coal on one of the oldest forests in Europe. In Le Havre, Joanie Lemercier offers both a retrospective of her past work, exhibits what has been in her practice a real questioning and offers new creations that raise the questions of tomorrow. Against the backdrop of deep environmental questions, Joanie Lemercier questions and positions herself as a critic of the tools that have punctuated her practice for years. Convinced that technology can produce beauty, he devotes himself in his new creations to working with and around the living.
