UP#3
A COLOSSAL RADIANT WHITE CONCRETE FRAME BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE CITY
Permanent work of art
Discovery tour: From a garden to anotherArtist duo Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann are renowned for their installations in public spaces which come to life through the eyes of passers-by. Their creations are at the crossroads between sculpture, design, street furniture, and architecture. They tend to stand out from usually familiar landscapes and are always created in situ, i.e., they are designed exclusively for the environment in which they are displayed.
Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann's previous projects include UP#1 and UP#2. Designed especially for the city of Le Havre, UP#3 is a pure white structure that rises from the pebbles and stands out from the horizon, in line with the axis of the Avenue Foch and the Porte Océane. Designed by Auguste Perret, the Porte Océane consists of two towers culminating at 47.50 metres above the ground that were built either side of the Avenue Foch. It symbolises the interface between the city and the seaside.
Enigmatic and bewildering at the same time, UP#3 might represent the frame of an imaginary Perret building. Located on the beach, this majestic structure can be seen as an extension of this monumental gateway leading to the sea.
Dyed and polished white concrete structure.
