Maroussia Rebecq

Quai de la Saône

Maroussia Rebecq was one of the first figures of fashion to bring the idea of recycling to life, at a time when major brands had little interest in it.

The artist and stylist Maroussia Rebecq was one of the first figures of fashion to bring the idea of recycling to life, at a time when major brands had little interest in it. For the launch of the new season, she has imagined a performance in the form of a catwalk, presenting original creations imagined and made in Le Havre to the public. This collection of clothes that pay tribute to everyday life and the world of work was created in April during workshops at Hangar Zero, where the artist invited locals and professionals to co-design this unprecedented line, made up of a dozen unique items. Different skills therefore come together, from nautical-knot techniques to knitting, collage or the creation of accessories, under the artist's direction: a truly collective creation.

Models recruited from the people of Le Havre will present this unique collection, the result of reflection on the circular economy, the world of work and the ecological emergency. The models will be invited to take part in two shoots, as well as a public catwalk on 24 June 2023.

For Maroussia Rebecq "the march, the parade, the demonstration and the catwalk are pretexts through which to create looks and creating these looks becomes a pretext for presenting these "ordinary" people, faces and attitudes, to tell stories and shift conventional and advertising beauty towards an internal, powerful beauty. It's about deconstructing and building our apathy, raising awareness of field professions, of valuing our differences. This is the portrait of the city of Le Havre, through its landscape and its inhabitants. Our project "re-dresses" our minds with inclusive values to better construct the world of tomorrow. »

"Upcycle solution" is a film by Maroussia Rebecq created in parallel with the collection of the same name she imagined for the new edition of Un Été Au Havre.

Faced with a world of overconsumption, the artist offers an alternative to "fast fashion" and continues at Le Havre his experiments started nearly 20 years ago.

For the port city, she designed a collection “homage” to everyday life and the world of work, carried out in April at various workshops at Hangar zero. She invited locals and professionals to co-design this new line, made of ten unique clothes. Different skills are thus mixed, from the techniques of the marine knot through knitting, collage or the creation of accessories.

The artist’s work was first materialized by a parade on the quay of the Saône on June 24. It continues here with a film shot on the port of Le Havre, accompanied by an original score signed Sacrifice Seul & Protocole 8. This short film stages Le Havre’s models that bear the collection, the fruit of a reflection on the circular economy, the world of work and the ecological emergency. In this environment rarely visited by artists, Maroussia Rebecq proposes to "re-appropriate what we have around us and to magnify it, simply".
