The results of a collaboration between the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie and Un Été Au Havre, Sur le Toit is a garden artwork to explore on the top floor of the Parking des Docks, which offers an exceptional view over the town. Sur le Toit is like an urban micro-forest, a garden where you can sit down in places where you wouldn’t normally think of doing. It’s a collective, community-based installation, designed as a refuge where new relationships with the city and the horizon can be created. Sur le Toit was built using a scaffolding framework, and features “folies”, with various uses: meeting, relaxation, observation, cooking, gardening, sunbathing and more. According to its designers, it is “a practical space”, with an original programme attached, involving the inhabitants of Le Havre.

At the end of the Un Été Au Havre season, the work Sur le Toit will be dismantled and reconfigured to fit in the spaces adjacent to the northern forecourt of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris. The installation will dialogue with a different public there, in the context of the large, temporary “Jardinier” exhibition planned for October 2025 in the Cité. This project, by a group of architects and a landscape gardener, is about modelling a form of utopia, a place where plants and the city come together to welcome people and “garden them from within”.
