Born in 1999, Lorène Dengoyan began her graduate studies at the École d'Art du Havre. It was during these degree years that she discovered graphic design through the world of publishing. She appreciated this method, but very quickly realised that the paper format was no longer sufficient.
She then extended her work towards installations almost camouflaged in everyday space.
These forms were, most of the time, repurposing objects we encounter in everyday life (flyers, tin cans, newspapers, etc.) in which the story and imagination hold an important place. With the help of her accessories, Lorène invites passers-by to dive into her stories, becoming both spectators and actors. Public spaces of all kinds are now becoming her playground where, thanks to the support of reimagined objects, particular scenes are activated between props and passers-by.
The Optimists installation put forward for Un Été au Havre extends this broad reflection. It dresses 26 Optimists in the colours of the international code of maritime signals. The sails of the optimists, always moving in front of the spectator's view, first call the eye to reactivate the silent language of the sailors.
LORÈNE DENGOYAN’s involvement in Un Été Au Havre takes place as part of a partnership between the event and the Art Media and Environment course of ESADHaR. Since 2019, certain installations proposed by these student artists have been selected to be fully part of the summer programme. This partnership, which allows art students to immerse themselves in an artistic, professional environment, is unique.
